Research Analysis: We tentatively identify his father as John Rafferty (b. 1754) based on the listing of a son 'John C. Rafferty' born at an appropriate date, the fact that this John named a son 'John C. Raffety', common location (Green Co., KY), and the listing of this John in the purchase of a property at Pitman's Creek as 'John Rafferty, Junior'. It is possible that he was actually the son of either William Rafferty or Richard Rafferty (currently shown as his uncles). It does seem certain that he was the grandson of Thomas Rafferty (the immigrant). John Raffety was named guardian of Asa D. Cantrell and Elizabeth Cantrell, the children of Achsa, in 1813. The guardianship document was witnessed by his brothers William, James, and Thomas Raffety.1 John Raffety was born circa 1777 at Virginia. He was the son of John Rafferty and Sarah (?). John Raffety married Achsa Cummins, daughter of Asa Cummins. John Raffety was received and baptized in the Pitman's Creek Baptist Church. Jonathan Cowherd was a trustee of the church. On 5 October 1811 at Pitman's Creek Baptist Church, Green, Kentucky.2 He died on 19 February 1815 at New Orleans, Louisiana.3,4 John Raffety was a Private in Captain Paxton's Company, Col. Parker Regiment, Kentucky Militia in the War of 1812. He died in service in New Orleans, Louisiana.3 His estate was inventoried on 23 October 1815 at Green, Kentucky.5 From Green County, KY Order Book 6, p. 397-398: 'December 29, 1818 it was made to appear to the satisfaction of the court by proof that John Raffety, a private in Captain Paxton's company of Kentucky Militia in Col. Parker Regiment died at New Orleans on the 19th day of February, 1815 leaving Achsa Raffety his widow who remained a widow until the 27th day of April, 1817. Then she intermarried with William Grayham. It was made further to appear to the satisfaction of the court that John Raffety at his death left the following children under the age of sixteen'.3,4 The full statement of the settlement of John Raffety's estate was entered into the Green Co., KY order book on 26 April 1820 by the administrator, Elias Barbee.6 |

Robert Charles Anderson says that the assignment of William Hunting's wife Margaret as Margaret Randolf "may well be correct", but is not proved.3 Margaret Randolfe died between 25 October 1648 and 25 January 1648/49 at Hoxne, Suffolk, England.4 |
