Sir John Thimbleby was born in 1482 at England.1 He was a recusant (i.e., one of those who remained loyal to the Roman Catholic Church after the establishment of the Church of England), and in 1536 he led a group of Lincolnshire men in the ill-fated Pilgrimage of Grace, the only substantial resistance to Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries.1 He died in 1550.1
