           Family history says that Sidney Walton Davison's great-great grandfather was Robert Merritt who came over from England with General Wolfe and was Wolfe's Aide-de-camp at the taking of Quebec from the French. He hed the General in his arms when he died.

      The first Governor of the Phillipines was General Wesley Merritt. He was a second cousin of Sidney Walton Davison.

      He is supposedly descended from William Davison counselor of Queen Elizabeth I.
      Sidney Walton Davison was also known as Sidney Davison Walton. He was born on 3 September 1837 at Upper Canada (Ontario).1,2 He was the son of Elijah K. Davison and Sylvia Simmons. Sidney Walton Davison married Lovenia Coefield Raffety, daughter of Richard Raffety and Lydia Hornbuckle, on 5 February 1861 at Galena, Jo Daviess, Illinois.3 Sidney Walton Davison was described as black hair, grey-blue eyes, about 5' 11-1/2" tall at age 25 in 1862.4 As of say 1875, Sidney Walton Davison was also known as D. S. Walton.1 He and Lovenia Coefield Raffety were divorced say 1879. Sidney Walton Davison married Sibyl? (?) after 1879 at Oregon.5 Sidney Walton Davison and Sibyl? (?) appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of District 128, Cornelius Precinct, Washington, Oregon, enumerated 9 June 1880, D.S. Walton, Farmer, age 43, and wife Sibyl, age 31, are shown in household 73. He gives his birthplace and parents as NY. She gives her birthplace as NY and her parents as Canada.6 Sidney Walton Davison died in 1902 at San Francisco, California. He ran away to sea when he was about ten. Was ship's carpenter and rose to the position of First Mate. He was on cargo vessels.
      He left his wife and three young daughters on a farm near Maryville, Mo. His wife sold the farm and returned to her girlhood home, Cascade, Iowa when Edna Earle was three. To control the property her husband had left, she obtained a divorce after a lapse of 7 years.
      At one time asked Wilbur Samuel Gould to go to Central America to engage in running a coffee plantation with him. Edna Earle put thumbs down on that.
      Tradition is that Sir William Davison, who signed Mary, Queen of Scots, death warrant is his ancestor.
