Theodore Julius Krafft was educated at Lyceum, Zweibrucken, Germany.4 He was educated in 1831 at Heidelberg University, Heidelberg, Germany.4 "In 1832, after a family consultation, his uncle [Theodore Erasmus Hilgard] sent him and a cousin, Edward Hilgard, to the United States to finda a location where the family might settle. Tehy started on their journey in May, 1832, in a sailing-vessel from Bremen, and landed on American shores the following July. They at once went to Rochester, N.Y., on the Erie Canal, where the cholera waws at that time ragin, but left it behind them at that city, and pursued their journey Westward. They remained on a farm in the vicinity of Pittsburgh the following winter, and the next spring they traveled over Illinois and Missouri, and finally selected St. Clair County, Ill., as the scene of their future operations."4 Graduated from Heidelberg University at age 19. He was elected first mayor of the newly incorporated city in 1850 at Belleville, St. Clair, Illinois.7 He lived in 1892 at 229 South High Street, Belleville, St. Clair, Illinois.4,7 He died on 30 July 1896 at Belleville, St. Clair, Illinois, at age 83.3,7 He was buried after 30 July 1896 at Green Mount Cemetery, Belleville, St. Clair, Illinois.7
