The Rossiter family of Somersetshire was entitled to a coat of arms, which was argent on a chevron of gules, three pheons or. This was confirmed to John Rosseter of Old Cleve, co. Somerset, by the College of Arms in 1631 according to The Visitations of the County of Somerset in the Years 1531-1573.2 Richard Rossiter was born circa 1463 at probably, Combe St. Nicholas, Somerset, England.1 He was the son of William? Rossiter and Joan (?).3 Richard Rossiter married Elizabeth (?) circa 1490 at probably, Combe St. Nicholas, Somerset, England. At the time of his inquisition post mortem held at Ilminster, co.           William Salisbury and son, John, of Swanzey were the first killed in King Philip's War. He came to New England before 1656.
          William Salisbury, the first of this line, who came to America from England. He was born in Wales, doubtless in Denbighshire, son of John Salisbury of Llanrhaidr, Wales 14th generation from Henry Guelph, Duke of Bavaria. He disposed on May 12, 1656 that he was 34 years of age and if this be true he was born in 1622. He was in Dorchester, Mass. as early as 1648. He was for a time herdsman of the town cattle. He settled in Milton, formerly a part of Dorchester and signed the agreement regarding the parsonage land May 18, 1667. He moved to Swansea, Mass. as early as 1671 being the first man of the name in the town. William married Susanna ? who was admitted to full communion at the Dorchester church May 7, D.S.T. and was dismissed to the Milton church September 18, 1681."2 William Salisbury was born in 1635.1 He died in June 1675.1
