As town clerk he recorded only four, but their were undoubtedly others born in Columbia, and at least one is said to have been born in Centerville." Note that this correlates well with Anna Patten Hayne's note on his wife Phebe: "She died when her 15th child was born, poor thing!"1,2 "He was a justice of the peace in Columbia and the town's first town clerk.
