Capt. Oliver Bates was born on 13 January 1721 at Westford, Massachusetts.1 He was the son of Edward Bates and Mary Snow.1 He was captain of one of the Westford companies that pursued the British red coats in their retreat from Concord Bridge, and received a wound which caused his death July 4, 1775.2 Capt. Oliver Bates died on 4 July 1775 at Westford, Massachusetts, at age 54 from wounds received in the Revolutionary War.1,2
