Some have wondered if we are related to Captain John Seamans. No, according to Elizabeth Seamans Haviland who writes that "Thomas (along with Robert, George, and John [not Captain John] Seamans) were banished from England (in 1682-1684) for being rebels in the 'Monmouth Rebellion'. These Seamans' were sent to the Barbados, and in 1685 the list of tickets granted out of the Secretary's Of- fice of the Island of Barbados, among the names in Thomas Seaman in ship "Thomas and Sarah", they were from Chilton, England."2 It is claimed that the early descendants of Thomas and Susannah owned about all of Zscituate and Foster, R.R., they were all industrious, earnest people, and affilated with the Baptist Church. Thomas was a school teacher and carpenter; lived in Swansea, Mass., in 1687, and this is also the birth place of his eleven children.1 Thomas Seamans married Susannah Salisbury, daughter of William Salisbury, in 1687 at Swansea, Massachusetts.1 |
